Repeater WiFi

Repeater WiFi

Repeater WiFi is another term which people are using for WiFi Repeater.  If you take a look through Wikipedia you will notice that a lot of the discussion on the topic centers around the fact that wireless repeaters appear to have a little bit of ambiguity surrounding them as the signals which they rebroadcast are not encompassing all devices.  If you are having trouble with this you may want to check out what is a wireless repeater before moving on.

Some devices which I have already previously made a post about, such as wireless multimedia repeaters are designed specifically for multimedia.  This can include an video game consoles, and also video centers such as a dvd or bluray setup.  This is not to say that you will always get the best quality, or have no problems, as you can understand wireless repeaters have their own problems unique to them just like using a wired connection does.  After all, who wants all of those wires hanging all over your place when you are already trying to make it look nice and neat.

Wifi Repeater

Have you recently become interested in wireless repeaters?  So have I.  I will tell you a little bit why I have and it has to do with home networking.  I had a problem with one of my routers which I ran a few connections off of by using a wired connection.  After seeing a few of my friends setups I thought I should just go wireless that way I wouldn't be dragging around a cord with me wherever I went with my laptop.  So the search started and so did the journey in the repeater world.  If your new to this have a look at what is a wireless repeater before moving on.

Wifi Repeater vs. Wifi Extender vs. Wireless Access Point
Upon seeing these terms I couldn't make sense out of too much as to what I needed for a basic setup in order to allow me to sit outside and use my laptop.  I thought that it would be simple, and of course it never was.  So I started checking around and sure enough I found a few definitions from different wiki's and a few sites.  Ok, thats great - now what.  Well now I had to pick what I figured was going to be worth my time (which is always limited) in order to setup.  So I needed to do some background research.

Wifi Repeater Reviews
Here's where things started getting a little bit clearer for me.  Not only could I see what prices looked like, but I could also read different reviews that would help me make more sense out of things.  I used Google to take a look around and sure enough there were a few sites but all of them offered 2 or 3 products and didn't really tell me too much or I found myself looking at some megasite that just regurgitates whatever their adverters want.  Great.  I could pick out of the garbage I thought as to what was going to work for me.  Luckily I ended up just typing in http://www.wifirepeaterreviews.com and sure enough a site came up that was actually very helpful.  The site is simply Wifi Repeater Reviews or Wireless Repeater Reviews however you want to look at it and they provided customer reviews.  This made life so much easier.  Now I could see why people were complaining about certain repeaters and which ones I should actually consider.  Because I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I purchased 3 of them.  Now lets go through them.

Diamond Multimedia 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless Repeater and Range Extender (WR300N)

This was the first one I decided to check out and sure enough everyone loves it.  I looked into the reason as to why and people were starting to say that it was one of the better models which Diamond came out with and the most recent one as well.  Not only could you do simple internet stuff with it, like hookup your laptop (which was my main goal) but now you could use it as a central hub to push around all your media devices to different destinations.  This for example works great for me when I want to stream something from the net and watch it on my TV.  The installation was simple, I did not have to call the support line, and I still have it to this day.

Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR300)

I actually kept the Amped in order to give it as a gift to a friend of mine who recently needed a repeater but was having some trouble finding something worth while.  He was very thankful because he found the same thing I did - that is, the exact same review in regards to the Diamond.  It was easy to setup, it had no problem syncing with mine/his router which are not Amped products at all and everything worked instantly without any real problems.

Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender

The last one I tried was the Hawking.  It has a lot of good reviews and a lot of people are saying that its actually their favorite because it does exactly what it says it does - extend range - not just some range, but really pushes it for the price that you pay.  Thats something to consider if you are just looking for a simple extender but want to make sure that you are not overpaying for anything that you will not use.  This gave me no hassles but I decided to return it only because the Diamond is more specialized for a multimedia content.
